Sweden Embassy, MFCC trains 30 organizations on leveraging new media training

Youths have been advised and enlightened on the proper use of new media to demand accountability from the government across different levels and also to promote and achieve the Sustainable Developmental Goals in society.

The urge was made at an event organized by Media For Community Change (MFCC), a non-governmental organization (NGO) which focuses on using the media to amplify the voices of people at the grassroots and leverage on partnerships to proffer sustainable solutions to the looming challenges in different communities they work in.

The capacity building workshop which is the second of its kind was hosted by the Sweden Embassy in the Nation’s capital, Abuja on Thursday 27th of June, 2019 trained 30 participants from different NGOS in Nigeria on an event tagged ‘Maximizing New Media for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals 2.0’.

Focusing on the theme, ‘Positioning your Organization for Global Impact’ sought to improve and educate startup and established ngos on how to successfully utilize the new media.

The facilitators at the event were Abiodun Essiet, Special Adviser to the Honourable Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) on ICT/ Civil societies who spoke on SDGS – Transparency in Politics and the role of New Media, Chioma Agwuegbo, Founder TechHer who addressed Achieving the sgds- The Role of New Media.

Other facilitators were Abraham Solomon, Lead Project Officer at The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Media and Information Literacy who lectured on Achieving the SDGS: Telling Impact Story with Photography, and louis ehimikhuai, a content creator and social media influencer who discussed new media tools for achieving the SDGS.

The participants were enlightened to demand accountability from the government across different levels, find respective niches, explore collaborations, and engage the right way on social media using viable contents.

The event was full of remarkable testimonials from the participants who now understood strategies on how to effectively apply their newly acquired skill when achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
